Anyone who has followed Cool As Leicester for a while will know about our love for Maurizio’s.
One of our favourite lockdown discoveries, back in April 2020 we boldly claimed we thought we’d found Leicester’s best pizza and then a whole lot of you tried it and agreed. Since then Maurizio’s has gone from strength to strength and back in April they moved into the city centre with their own restaurant on Belvoir Street.
Staying true to their handmade Italian pizza and pasta, the menu at Maurizio’s has been a hit since they opened their restaurant doors. We caught up with the man himself to find out how it’s going.
What has been the highlight since opening the restaurant?
I can’t say we’ve had a specific highlight, every day we’ve been filled with love and support. Meeting our customers face to face and interacting with them after years of takeaway has definitely been a highlight.
What do you think is your best dish?
A timeless classic, Margherita pizza, and one of my latest creations, Maurizio pasta.
What is it about Maurizio’s that makes it so special?
My 30 years’ experience in the industry and the authenticity of the raw materials used in the preparation of the dishes. We never compromise on quality.
What is your favourite thing about about being based in Leicester?
It’s a great city, it gives our restaurant a lot of exposure. We get to experience a blend of cultures on a daily basis, while also having the opportunity to share our culture with a lot of different people.
What do you think makes the perfect pizza?
Experience, passion and traditions.
