Situated in the heart of the Cultural Quarter, Manattan34 is one of Leicester’s finest cocktail bars. With a completely bespoke cocktail menu, their focus is on being unique and offering Leicester’s drinkers something a little out of the ordinary. We caught up with them to find out more in this week’s BID Spotlight feature.
As the Cultural Quarter has developed in the city, it’s a brilliantly vibrant spot and Manhattan34 is at the heart of it. Their focus on having a unique cocktail offering is evidenced by their menu, which is exclusively bespoke drinks. You won’t find any of these elsewhere in the city. Furthermore, in the unlikely event you don’t spot something you fancy the staff are all trained to make bespoke cocktails on the spot. Want to impress a date next time you’re out? Why not create a brand new cocktail for them right there and then.
“Our staff work to a flavour thesaurus”, Manhattan34 owner, Marc Van Rooyen adds, “If customers let us know their preferred base spirit, then we’ll work on the accompanying sweet, sour, floral and liqueur ratios to create something completely unique for them.”
The same ethos goes into their cocktail masterclasses, which are available to book for groups of 2 – 50 people 7 days/week. “We want customers to enjoy the masterclass but go home being able to replicate them at home. It’s important to understand why certain flavours work well together in a drink.”
Manhattan34 has also garnered a reputation for their pop-up menus and brand collaborations. Heading into the winter period there are a range of events planning offering some wonderful cocktail collaborations.

As the Christmas period approaches keep an eye on their downstairs basement bar, which is set to undergo a festive log cabin themed transformation.
Of course the bar is also a great spot for your weekend night out or to discover some comedy or live music during the week. Comedy and Cocktails is one of Leicester’s longest running comedy evenings and takes place on the first Tuesday of every month and the bar hosts regular live music, including 14 piece world music band Ka Safar, on the last Thursday of each month.
Marc added, “We’re always planning new menus and collaborations at Manhattan and this time of year has some wonderful themed events planned. From hosting the after party for Last Friday every month, to our comedy nights which will extend into a packed programme for Leicester Comedy Festival 2020, we’re looking forward to seeing plenty of faces over the coming months!”
