Plants & Play is a unique installation by artist Mandeep Dhadialla, and the interactive artwork aims to highlight the importance of play as part of our wellbeing, using the fun and familiar element of a garden swing
A giant garden swing invites people of all ages to take a seat and swing. This isn’t just any swing — it’s surrounded by a stunning suspended paper garden with large, vibrant flowers, fruits, foliage and wildlife.
The installation showcases how play can uplift spirits, foster community bonds, and encourage conversations about the environment.
Swing amidst this magical garden and see how play can bring us all closer together, while also reminding us of the beauty of nature and the importance of caring for our environment. Feel the joy of play and let it transform your visit into an extraordinary adventure.

Craft Night at the Cathedral
Have a go with these crafting and making sessions, including time with the artist behind the Plat & Play installation, Mandeep Dhadialla. Relax in one of the Cathedral’s cosy crafting corners and enjoy the music and a bar. Aimed at those age 16+. The Crafting sessions will take place on Thursday 17 October from 7pm. Tickets are available via Eventbrite.
Cinema in the Cathedral
Experience the mystery and beauty at the heart of the 1993 classic The Secret Garden (PG), before enjoying the swing in the Cathedral amidst a magical suspended garden of large, vibrant flowers, fruits, foliage and wildlife.
The screening will be relaxed and is suitable for all ages. Drinks and snacks will be available to purchase at the venue. Cinema in the Cathedral will take place on Thursday 24 October. Tickets are available via Eventbrite.
Plants & Play is free to visit and enjoy. The installation will be open at Leicester Cathedral from Saturday 12 – Thursday 31 October as part of Journeys Festival.
