When it comes to independent restaurants in Leicester we’re spoilt for choice. One that is a firm favourite is the long standing Casa Romana, behind the little green door on Albion Street.

The cosy Italian restaurant is one of the longest running in Leicester city centre and is close to the heart of many people. The family-run restaurant was established back in the 1980s and has maintained its authentic and rustic charm until the present day.

The menu focuses on traditional rustic Italian cuisine made with the finest ingredients. And keep an eye out for the daily specials and fresh seafood dishes. Founded by Roberto in the 1980s, those same values continued under protégé, Francesco, who took over in 2013.

Hidden behind that green door on Albion Street the restaurant has maintained its reputation as a hidden gem, whilst being adored by its many regular customers.

In fact when we did a call out for our readers’ favourite independent spots in Leicester, Sarah Challis got in touch to shout about her favourite Casa Romana dish, “My favourite dish is either the Tagliatelle lamb ragout or the Halibut (which comes fresh from Leicester market!) I love to go there because it’s such a welcoming, homely place, plus it feels like a secret spot since they don’t have a sign. And of course, their traditional Italian food is always delicious!”

Casa Romana is based on Albion Street in the city centre. Find out more via their website.
