The lockdown period has given many people time to reflect on their lifestyle habits, health and much more. Prana Cafe, on Horsefair Street, is a 100% vegan, plant-based cafe, offering tasty dishes from breakfast through to dinner.

Adapting to life over recent months, Prana has offered a takeaway and delivery service, which now runs Monday – Saturday every week with extended late night weekend opening. They have now introduced a brand new menu, with additions including quinoa and brown rice bowls, pancakes and waffles, pizza, smoothie bowls and more, all inspired to promote a healthier way of life.

In this week’s BID Spotlight we caught up with Prana owner, Sukh, to find out about the new menu and changes at the cafe.

Throughout the lockdown period Prana has been offering takeaway and delivery, how has this been welcomed by customers?

We’ve received very positive feedback on our delivery service and takeaway during lockdown, so much so that we have permanently changed our opening hours on Fridays and Saturdays to 10am-10pm. We are now available for delivery via our apps Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats on Monday -Thursday 10am-4pm and Friday and Saturday 10am-10pm.

During lockdown people have had time to reflect on many things such as eating habits and healthy eating, many are realising how a plant-based diet will boost your immune system and your overall health and wellbeing.

You’ve launched a new menu this week, what new dishes can people look forward to?

We really see this as a new and improved menu. As knowledge of plant-based food combinations and ingredients evolves, so do we at Prana Cafe! Our new health and wellbeing inspired menu consists of Super Salads, Signature Quinoa and Brown Rice Bowls, Baguettes, Smoothie Bowls, Bagels, Waffles, Pancakes, Pizza and Burgers, Fresh Smoothies and Milkshakes and many more plant-based foods and drinks. Everything on our new menu is available as a gluten-free option for optimum health, without compromising on taste.

What’s your favourite item on the new menu?

My favourite breakfast option is the Chocolate and Peanut Butter Smoothie Bowl, then for lunch it would be either the Signature Vegan Chicken Tikka Rice Bowl or the Tofu, Mushroom and Asparagus Rice Bowl. For a dessert, I would opt for the Berry & Ice Cream Waffle however this tends to change day to day.

What do you think it is that really makes Prana stand out?

I believe our beautiful Grade 2 listed building with high ornate ceilings and colourful interior really help Prana Cafe to stand out as well as being a 100% Vegan Whole Food Restaurant in the city centre.

What’s your favourite thing about Leicester as a city to run a business in?

My favourite things about Leicester is it’s vibrant city life, it’s diversity and its multi- cultural community which really helps local businesses thrive. We have well run organisations such as the local Council and Bid Leicester which makes life easier for independent businesses in the city.
