When you think about favourite independents in Leicester there’s one name that’s bound to come to nearly everyone’s lips… St Martin’s Coffee and Crafty.
Home to a gem of a coffee shop in the heart of St Martin’s Square by day, then by night transforming into Leicester’s own gourmet burger central, Crafty.
Since opening in the city they’ve become a firm favourite with the cool coffee shop vibes and craft beers to match their Crafty burgers. We caught up with owner, Andrea, to find out more about what they’re up to.
How would you describe St Martin’s Coffee Shop for someone who’s never visited?
Cool indie coffee shop, awesome food, great coffee, great vibes!
What is it about St Martin’s Coffee Shop that makes it unique?
The offering, coffee shop by day, crafty burgers by night – warm and friendly customer service!
If we were visiting Crafty for the first time what should we order?
A Crafty Poet (Dry-aged beef patty, double American and smoked Cheddar cheese, smoked bacon, salted crispy onions, BBQ sauce, aioli, pickles, Milner’s brioche bun (gf available)).
You chose Leicester as the place to open Crafty, what was it about the city that made you think this was the place you wanted to be?
Such a multicultural city – loved the vibe on our first visit. It had to be a uni town ideally with awesome sports teams!
What is it about Leicester’s independent scene that you think makes it special?
A great sense of community, huge support from customers. Leicester folk are extremely proud of their place and truly loyal. Leicester also has a big offering of independents, plenty to be proud of!
Tell us about other standout items on your menus?
Great barista made coffee, thick jersey milkshakes, banging brunch menu, fry ups, Cubans and pimped fries to name a few…
What do you have planned for the coffee shop and Crafty around Christmas?
Our usual Christmas parties, plenty of groups coming in to celebrate the festive season! St Martin’s winter warmers such as the Smores hot chocolates and our famous Oatly London Fog. Festive Crafty cocktails and our festive specials including the ever favourite Poutine! We’ll also be open for early diners on New Year’s Eve.
