What has been the highlight of Independent Leicester over the last 5 years?
Over the last five years, the highlight has been watching the incredible growth and recognition of Leicester’s independent businesses. Independent Leicester has become a hub for discovering the best of what the city has to offer. It is fantastic going into businesses and speaking to the people behind the shop, café or restaurant and hearing their individual stories.
Tell us about what inspired the creation of the brand?
The idea behind Independent Leicester came from wanting to celebrate the diversity and character of the city’s independent businesses.
We noticed how these businesses brought something unique to Leicester’s city centre, not just products or services, but a real personal, community-driven experience.
The goal was to create a platform that could showcase these businesses, helping to connect them with locals and visitors and ensure they thrive.
What is it about Leicester’s independents that makes them so special?
Leicester’s independent businesses are the heart and soul of the city. Each one tells its own story, full of creativity, diversity, and innovation. What really makes them special is the personal touch, these aren’t just businesses, they’re passion projects, driven by people who care about quality, individuality, and the community around them.
