Rum and Spice is one of this year’s new openings in Leicester city centre.
Serving up an authentic Caribbean menu, the venue has also become known for their vibrant evening events and cocktails.
We caught up with owner, Mez, to find out more for this week’s BID Leicester Spotlight feature.
How would you describe Rum & Spice to someone who hasn’t visited?
Rum and Spice embodies the Carribean culture and provides a fun, high energy environment for all to enjoy. Our expert rum selections and unique cocktails make for an enjoyable night and great environment.
What makes your restaurant unique?
We are Leicester’s Only Caribbean sitdown restaurant, providing traditional Caribbean cuisine and offering a large array of events that showcase the Caribbean culture, such as spoken word, poetry, live performances, Motown and blues nights, independence dances and much more.
What inspired the launch of Rum & Spice?
Originally founded in 2019, Rum and Spice was founded to offer the Caribbean community a place to network, enjoy live performances and showcase the history to a wider audience. The business was a total success and branched off into an events and wedding management company. It was at this point it was adapted and brought to the midlands to target a wider audience.
Tell us about your cocktail offering?
Each of our cocktails is unique and named after specific parishes within Jamaica. The cocktails have been designed using the ingredients from that region, giving a completely unique experience only available at Rum and Spice.
What is your favourite thing about running the venue?
My favourite thing about running the venue is the people. The community of Leicester that has enjoyed the venue has been so diverse from old to young, all colours, nationalities, ages and preferences it has been absolutely amazing to enjoy the Leicester community and have them enjoy the beauty of West Indian culture.
