Orton’s Brasserie may not be able to fling open the doors to their new Cultural Quarter restaurant just yet, but they’re now introducing themselves to the city with a new brunch delivery service.
We got all the details (and sampled some dishes) for this week’s Bid Spotlight.
Big Joe’s Brunch Delivery Menu launches on Saturday 6 June and is set to give Leicester foodies a taste of what’s to come. Dishes including The Brunchwich, The Big Joe, Gone Fishing and The Detox Box will be delivered to your door freshly prepared and ready for an at home brunch treat. Why not get your brunch squad on Zoom and enjoy it together? The delivery range is 20 minutes from the city centre to ensure your food arrives hot and ready to enjoy.
The dishes can also be paired with drinks because, as they say, “Brunch without booze is just a sad late breakfast”. Choose between a Bloody Mary Box (50ml Grey Goose vodka mixed with lemon juice, tomato juice, Worcester, Tobasco, celery and olives), a Mimosa Box (4 mini bottles of Prosecco, 4 servings of fresh orange juice), or a Wine Box (pick any 6 bottles from the Orton’s cellar, including Pinot Blush, Merlot, Sauvingnon Blanc and Malbec).
Orton’s Brasserie owner, Guy, describes the menu as “modern British cuisine that’s unpretentious and uses local suppliers”, which is evident through the high quality brunch menu from Joe’s.
So what’s everyone having?
The Brunchwich – Joe’s flagship Brunch Sandwich. Made from your choice of fresh brioche buns, toasted bagels or English breakfast muffins and filled with a range of premium, handcrafted, brunch items including Orton’s signature sausage patties, British dry cure streaky bacon and sunny side up eggs. Make it a meal with one of their house-made bubble & squeak cakes, baked beans, and fresh fruit juice – and flexitarians fear not, vegetarian & plant based options are also available.
The Big Joe – classic all day brunch with British dry cured streaky bacon, two signature sausage patties, one perfectly-cooked sunny-side up egg and baked beans, accompanied by a house-made bubble and squeak cake, oven roasted cherry vine tomatoes and a breakfast mushroom topped with herb butter. Again, vegetarian and plant based options are available.
Gone Fishing Box – a light and healthier option which contains hot smoked salmon atop a bed of wholesome quinoa & tahini, served with mixed greens, a tangy dill infused yogurt and a perfectly boiled egg.
Detox Box – creamy yoghurt bowl infused with honey and topped with crunchy granola accompanied by fresh seasonal fruit, delicately sliced avocado, hand mixed nuts & dried fruit and a perfectly boiled egg. Vegetarian and plant based option also available.
Owner Guy told us that his favourite item on the menu is a double sausage & egg Brunchwich with avocado, so we had to give it a go…
You can build you Brunchwich any way you please and the English breakfast muffin filled with sausage, egg and avocado was a perfect mid-morning treat. The sausage patty had an excellent flavour owing to the quality ingredients and the egg was cooked just perfectly to travel well but not be overcooked.
We coupled this with the Gone Fishing Box, which provides a large healthy portion perfect for a summer weekend brunch in the garden, The smoked salmon sits atop a greens and quinoa with a boiled egg and separate dip. Washed down with a Mimosa, fabulous!
Prices start from £5.50 for a combo Brunchwich, with the Gone Fishing box priced at £8.50, Big Joe at £10.95 and Detox Box at £7.95. Bloody Mary and Mimosa packages are priced at £20 with juice quenchers and smoothies from £1.50.
Joe’s delivery menu fills a perfect gap before Orton’s Brasserie is able to open. Owner guy, commented that the venue will offer “a welcoming, fun atmosphere – a place to enjoy great food, great drinks, great company and live events. There’s something for everyone, depending on your mood.”
