Following lengthy discussion after the news of a license application from Festival Republic came to light, the licence has now been granted.

The licence was for a 2 day live music event on Victoria Park to be held 16-17 September 2023. During the licensing hearings it was revealed that the event will be BBC Radio 2 Live, a huge flagship music event for the BBC.

Having initially been an annual event in London’s Hyde Park, BBC Radio 2 Live became a touring event after Covid, however their last event in Leeds was cancelled due to the death of Her Majesty The Queen. This makes the Leicester event the first BBC Radio 2 Live event since 2019.

The event will host 38,000 music fans per day and 30% of tickets will be ring-fenced for Leicestershire residents.

There were some objections to the license around noise levels and closure of the park, but the organisers have agreed to 63 license conditions to ease any concerns around these areas.

The line-up will consist of 8 live acts per day as well as marquee tent hosting sets from BBC DJs, including 80s and 90s sets. Past Radio 2 Live line-ups have included household names, such as Rod Stewart, Kylie, Robbie Williams, Take That, Madness, Westlife and more.

Ticket information will be released by the BBC in June, with an announcement due towards the middle of the month. Keep an eye on BBC Radio 2 socials for the latest updates.
