Saturday is made up of 4 things this weekend – Sunshine, Leicester v Burnley, the Heineken Cup Quarter Final and the Grand National (maybe 5 if you include beer). Hopefully you’ll make it to tomorrow without too much of a hangover and if you do then we recommend that you get down to Lock 42 and check out the magnificent Sheffield indie scenesters, The Crookes.
Their debut album was released recently by Fierce Panda Records and makes for very interesting listening. With influences ranging from The Smiths to 50s and 60s pop music and a romanticism that oozes from their lyrics, you can’t help but be encapsulated by this band.
With an unequivocally middle class sound The Crookes don’t rank alongside many of Sheffield’s other musical exports, but don’t let this put you off. The album ‘Chasing After Ghosts’ is the perfect summer soundtrack. Put it on today, lie in the sun, soak up the honey-tinged indie-pop, then get down to Lock 42 tomorrow to round off your weekend in the best possible way!
Tickets are only £6 and you can get yours from here.
