Shaking things up a little in the Leicester food home delivery scene is Zeenie’s Kitchen. Inspired by traditional cooking in Malawi paired with other favourite flavours, the result is a very popular changing weekly menu of wonderful dishes.

From traditional Malawian Akni to Singaporean rice or Indian brunch, Zeenie’s Kitchen was set up during lockdown and has gone from strength to strength thanks to the imagination on the menus and quality of the dishes.

Having sampled their Singaporean rice, Chaat and Sooji, all of which went down a storm, we caught up with Zeenat to find out a little more about her food inspiration and plans.

Tell us a little about Zeenie’s kitchen and the cuisine you specialise in

Zeenie’s Kitchen started in April 2020 where I found the courage to open my own Instagram page and started posting my own recipes hoping to inspire everyone to find a new passion whilst we were in Lockdown. We specialise in Indian cuisine where we cook a variety of dishes for our customers.

Where does your cooking inspiration come from?

My cooking inspiration started as a young girl watching my mother cook different dishes every single day whilst I grew up in Malawi. I believe it was this that sparked my passion for cooking and is the reason I am where I am today.

What is your favourite dish that you do?

To say I only have one favourite specific dish to cook would be a lie. I enjoy every single dish that I have cooked such as Akni (traditional Malawi dish), Chaat, Lamb Curry and much more. I just love to do what I do and I’m sure my customers would agree that all my food is unique from the rest. Many of them also compliment how my food taste exactly like the food back home in my hometown Malawi.

What do you think it is that sets your food apart from others in Leicestershire?

The current food scene in Leicester can be quite repetitive. There hasn’t been anything new to the scene that I believe has a made a difference which is one reason as to why I decided to start my very own catering business.

Do you do regular dishes or does the menu change weekly?

The menu changes weekly but I also bring back popular dishes now and then to meet my customers demands. I also take family orders whether it just be for dinner or for functions (minimum starting orders from 8+ people).

Where can people find the menu and how can they order?

The menu is accessible through my page where I keep my followers updated to what is on the menu that week. The menu is posted during the week for people to order for the coming weekend. People can place their orders via Phone, SMS or DM on Instagram.

You can find Zeenie’s Kitchen on Instagram @zeenies.kitchen where the latest weekly menu will be posted for pre-orders ahead of weekend collections.
