Fast-rising Leicester trio, Mouth Culture, continue their hot streak of singles with new track ‘Regret 101’, which is out today via In Vogue Records
We caught up with Mason from the band for this week’s music feature in partnership with PPL PRS.
How has the summer been for you so far?
Busy and fun! We have been in and out of the studio recording lots of new music, and made our debut at Slam Dunk which was a dream come true.
Describe Mouth Culture in 5 words for anyone who hasn’t heard you before?
Loud, heartfelt, in your face
Which 3 bands would be listed under your “for fans of”?
Paramore, Turnstile, The Smiths
You’re performing at Reading & Leeds this year, how buzzing are you for that?
We are beyond buzzing, it is such an honour to see our name on the poster alongside artists we grew up listening to, it doesn’t feel real.
Your new single is out this week, tell us about the writing and recording journey for the track?
Regret 101 was one of those songs that came out of a busy touring period, I think the energy of our live shows bled into this track, and I remember playing the riff to Max from You Me At Six on tour in Europe late last year during their soundcheck. I think we all knew we had something special. Once the tour ended we finished the demo and took it to a real studio where it came to life.
As a Leicester band, how does it feel to be representing the city at major festivals?
We want to put LC on the map, there is a lot of talent here blossoming and the world should know about it.
What is in the pipeline once festival season is over?
We have our headline UK tour in October, our friends in Heart Sauce who are also from Leicester will be joining as well as Beauty School. We are going to be playing a load of new material, and towards the end of the year we will be finalising something we are super excited about.
If we’re heading to Spotify to check you out, which song should we listen to first?
Our new tune, Regret 101. It’ll make you dance.
Mouth Culture are playing a Reading & Leeds warm-up show at Firebug on 19 August but tickets are sold out! Keep an eye on their Instagram @mouthculture for their next dates.
