It’s been a year since Black Iron Social launched inside The Gresham, bringing a new lease of life to Leicester’s historic Fenwicks building.

Since opening, the venue has adapted and lifted their menu options, keeping up their seasonal small plates alongside their signature steak options, which they’re so well known for at their sister restaurant Black Iron at Winstanley House.

Stand out main courses include Truffle & Sage Arancini, Seabass on crushed new potatoes, Braised Pork Cheek with black pudding fritter and Butter Roasted Fillet Steak. The small plates, however, offer a perfect opportunity to taste a selection of their menu across seafood, meat and vegetarian options. Also, it’s important to note that so much of their menu is gluten free.

If you’re a fan of seafood you simply can’t go to Black Iron Social and not order the scallops. The Garlic & Thyme Scallops are served with nori and samphire hollandaise, with 3 juicy scallops embedded in the flavoursome sauce. Perfectly paired with the Curry Cured Salmon served with yoghurt, cucumber and lavash cracker.

Other standout small plates include the large Chicken Kiev Balls which come served with a herb mayonnaise and the Bubble & Squeak Bonbons served in a tangy homemade brown sauce.

For vegetarian options do not miss the Blue Cheese Mushrooms, which come with ample blue cheese and served with red onion and sourdough.

With plenty of delicious small plate options to choose from it’s a nice excuse for many a return visit. But make sure you leave room for dessert, the Stick Toffee Pudding with clotted cream is something else.

Black Iron will also be open on Christmas Day with their Festive Feast priced at £100 for adults and £55 for children.
